Are you ready? Let's do this! It's time to think about cutting the cord. What cord? Your cable cord to your TV, That is the cord I am talking about. My husband and I cut the cord almost 2 years ago now and we are not going back. What do you have to lose beside the huge cable bill. Let me walk you through my favorite products, and you can see the specks on these great products first hand.
First of all we bought the Mohu Sky antenna. It is an indoor outdoor antenna that my husband and I realized, that after a whole day of moving it in and out of the attic, the best location was to just lay it in out attic rafters. No mounting was actually required, bonus. Depending on your location to TV Broadcasting stations you might not need the Mohu Sky version. Mohu offers other great price points on antennas and flexibility for your individual needs as well. Our Mohu antenna is hooked into the main cable pack in our attic and puts the local channels on every TV in my home. Our Mohu came with an amplifier for a single TV, and I highly recommend that you get an amplifier for every TV or only half of your channels will come in.
Next thing that holds people back is DVR. Let's face it. Once we experience it, who wants to go back to a live feed? Well there are several options out there for Over the Air (OTA) DVRs. I read a lot of reviews and looked at the price points and it seems that you are going to get what you pay for here folks. Now the good news is once you purchase your equipment, IT IS YOURS! There isn't going to be any monthly rental fees tacked onto a monthly bill. I personally chose the Channel Master it is everything they said it was. Easy to operate, easy user guide, easy to use DVR. I absolutely love it, and best of all, once purchased, there isn't any additional fees associated with it. It even links to the internet and has some exchange with internet channels.
One noteworthy glitch. My individual amplifier plugs into the cable and the USB port on the TV. When the TV was off, so was the amplifier, so it took me a couple of days to figure out why my shows wouldn't tape if the TV was turned off. I needed to plug the USB into an adapter and outside power source to record while the TV was turned off. Once I had done this. I was in business.
Now you are set with your local channels. There are so many streaming options out there right now vying for your attention. The Amazon Fire TV Stick helps you navigate your options while also giving you amazing features and content too. The home screen is easy to navigate. Amazon has great content for movies and TV. The free shipping is always nice and lets not forget the music and the free games for the kids. Need I say more? Really.
Last but not least but what about premium channels or that one TV show that you just love. How do I get that in real time. Streaming options through wifi are amazing. My family chose Playstation Vue for additional viewing options. It has unlimited screens, personal settings for family members, catch up on past shows options, DVR options, and we get about 24 additional channels for $30.00 a month and all of them are the channels we want to watch. Like all the Disney channels, AMC, DIY, HGTV, CNN, FOX, Freeform, TRU, and more. We even get the free sneek peak weekends. They have several packages and you can make it whatever you want.
My families investment into cutting the cord seemed expensive at first. Then I looked at it like this is 2 months cable bills, and started there. Then over time, when I saw how well it was working, I invested more cable bills into my equipment and set up. Now I can say I have not purchased any equipment in over a year and my monthly subscriptions are a fraction of my cable bill, and they are exactly what I want and no filler channels that I don't. So good luck cutting the cord and Happy Holidays.
